Jack Andrew Ziffer, Ph.D., M.D.

Dr. Ziffer, Ph.D., M.D., Chairman of Radiology Associates of South Florida, is Chief of Imaging Services at Baptist Hospital of Miami and the Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at the Baptist Cardiac and Vascular Institute. Prior to Baptist, he was Director of Cardiovascular Nuclear Medicine at Emory University, where he also completed his fellowship in Cardiac MRI and Nuclear Medicine, and his residency in Diagnostic Radiology.

A partner with Radiology Associates of South Florida, Dr. Ziffer has led a team at Baptist that has been in the forefront of hybrid imaging. They were among the first institutions to utilize SPECT-CT for cardiac and oncologic applications and where among the first to acquire PET-CT and apply it in a clinical oncology environment. Their institution has done approximately 10,000 studies on their three PET-CT units.

His principle research interests are in cardiac imaging and the diagnosis and assessment of patients with suspected cardiac disease. He and his colleagues in the Emergency Department and in Cardiology have developed innovative and cost-effective methods to evaluate patients with acute chest pain.

Dr. Ziffer is in national leadership positions in a number of societies and organizations particularly in cardiac imaging, namely the American Heart Association (AHA), Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM), the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA). He is an editorial reviewer for a number of scientific journals and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. He has served on the boards of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.

He is the author of more than 80 published book chapters, scientific abstracts, and journal articles. He has had numerous visiting professorships and has given more than 40 invited international, national, and regional lectureships.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Radiology with Special Competence in Nuclear Radiology, as well as the American Board of Nuclear Medicine. His Ph.D. degree was obtained at The Rockefeller University in Molecular Biology, in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Gerald Edelman, Ph.D., M.D
